The largest multinational hotel group of Portuguese origin opens its first hotel in Madrid


8th of May 2019, Madrid – Pestana Hotel Group, the largest multinational hotel group of Portuguese origin, is pleased to announce the much-anticipated opening of their most recent unit, under Pestana Hotel Group’s Collection brand, Pestana Plaza Mayor Madrid, the group’s most exclusive brand in luxurious and historic buildings in premium locations, on May 13th.


This new European capital joining Pestana Hotel Group’s extended portfolio, after Lisbon, London, Berlin and Amsterdam, is certainly one of the most vibrant tourist destinations in the World, having received, just in the last year, over more than 10 million tourists. Following Barcelona, where the Pestana brand entered in 2013, Pestana Plaza Mayor Madrid represents the latest objective in the brand’s growth in the Spanish market and one more important mark in its global reach strategy.


Located in Plaza Mayor, in the heart of Madrid’s capital, Pestana Plaza Mayor Madrid encompasses two historic buildings – the 17th century Casa de la Carnicería and an old fire station. This hotel is a true tribute to its original architecture, in which its solid walls, reveal the 400 years of history of the Plaza Mayor, one of the most emblematic of Europe, while its interiors pay homage to the work of the old craftsmen, weavers, carpenters, blacksmiths and potters.


Pestana Plaza Mayor Madrid is centrally located, just a short walk from other main attractions of the capital, such as the Cathedral and the Royal Palace. Pestana Plaza Mayor Madrid is the first hotel in the history of Plaza Mayor, offering 89 rooms and suites, of which almost half face the Plaza Mayor square, containing both elegant and contemporary design, with imperial decorative elements, combined with modern and colorful pieces inspired by various expressionist painters.


The hotel features an outdoor pool located at the top of the building, perfect for those Spanish summer days, with views over the historic rooftops and domes of Madrid. The Spa, located on the level below the square, offers an immediate atmosphere of tranquility and total embodied relaxation, with its indoor pool and traditional vaulted brick ceilings, illuminated by a clear and tempering lighting. It also features a fully equipped treatment center, a fitness center and various other breathtaking surrounding and unique spaces, ideal for holding events.


The hotel’s restaurant offer includes the RIB | Casa de la Carnicería | Beef & Wine, specialized in meat, and the Cafeteria on the Plaza Mayor square, dedicated to tapas and snacks, as well as a cocktail bar, the Coqueteleria evocative of Madrid’s most bohemian years, for pre or post dinner cocktails and drinks.
