The Hotel Group prepares for the opening of two new hotels in the Spanish capital

 

DIONÍSIO PESTANA – RECEIVES VASCO DA GAMA EXCELLENCE AWARD

The Pestana Hotel Group Chairman, Dionísio Pestana, has just been honoured in this year’s Vasco da Gama Excellence Awards. The awards presented by the Hispano-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce recognise the excellence achieved by companies and individuals that have made a major strategic and economic contribution to the Iberian market and to developing relations between Portugal and Spain.

The Pestana Hotel Group is expected to open two new hotels in Madrid. At Plaza Mayor, the new Pestana hotel has resulted from a renovation of the historic Casa de la Carnicería building, which is over 400 years old and has had Cultural Interest status since 1985. The property’s restoration and renovation project respects the architectural values of the space and pays homage to one of the ex-libris of Madrid’s historical centre. The hotel, consisting of 87 rooms, is the result of a €11 million investment. The second hotel to open its doors in the Spanish capital will be the third Pestana CR7 Lifestyle Hotel – the Pestana CR7 Madrid – which will receive a €14 million investment. The forthcoming 168-room hotel is located on the Gran Vía, in the same building as the famous Spanish Casa del Libro bookshop.

It is worth noting that the Hotel Group has been present in Spain since 2013, the year it opened the Pestana Arena Barcelona. Recently, the Hotel Group announced a global investment of €200 million in the most ambitious expansion plan ever, involving 20 new hotel openings over the next 3 years, exceeding the symbolic figure of 15,000 rooms by the year 2020.
